Selected Work for Shirley Plantation

Charles City County, Virginia

Shirley, settled in 1613, is the oldest plantation in Virginia and the oldest family-owned business in North America, dating to 1638. Design 3 was retained by Shirley to develop interpretive materials and display fixtures to guide visitors throughout the site.

A 20’ time line covering over 400 years of Shirley Plantation, Virginia and national events was recently installed in the education space. A custom reader rail system was designed for the plantation kitchen interpretation, and custom cases and site graphics have been designed and produced to compliment the site’s interpretation and enhance the visitor experience.
